# Set up informational webhooks

> Create your informational webhook with the setup wizard in the Portal Admin Dashboard.

The setup wizard creates your informational webhook in four steps: **Kind**, **Endpoint**, **Events**, and **Test**. Each environment has one informational webhook, so the wizard is only available until you finish it.

Before you start:

* Ask our team to turn on informational webhooks for your environment, if **Informational** doesn't appear under **Webhooks** in the dashboard.
* Deploy an HTTPS endpoint that returns a `2xx` for every event. See [Informational webhooks](/resources/informational-webhooks/overview) for how delivery works.

## Step 1: Choose the kind

1. In the [Portal Admin Dashboard](https://app.portalhq.io), select the environment you want to configure.
2. Under **Webhooks** in the sidebar, click **Informational**. If the environment has no informational webhook, Portal opens **Add a webhook**.
3. Under **What kind of webhook do you need?**, select **Webhooks** if it isn't already selected. It's the option with the **Informational** badge.
4. Click **Continue**.

## Step 2: Enter the endpoint

Under **Where should Portal send events?**, enter your **Endpoint URL**, for example `https://api.example.com/portal/events`. Every event you subscribe to goes to this URL, and the payload's `type` field tells you which event arrived.

The URL must start with `https://`. Click **Continue**.

## Step 3: Choose the events

Under **Which events do you want?**, check the events you want to receive, or click **Select all**. Nothing is selected by default.

| Group | Events |
| - | - |
| **EVM transactions** | Wallet transactions |
| **Solana transactions** | Wallet transactions, Token approvals, Token revocations, Delegated transfers |
| **Wallet lifecycle** | Wallet created, Wallet backed up, Wallet recovered |
| **Wallet actions** | Wallet ejected |

Solana **Token approvals**, **Token revocations**, and **Delegated transfers** require Solana **Wallet transactions**. They stay disabled until you check it. See [Informational webhook events](/resources/informational-webhooks/events) for what each event means.

Click **Create**. Portal creates the webhook and starts sending events right away.

## Step 4: Send a test event

The **Send a test event** step shows your endpoint, the events you chose, and the secret Portal sends in the `X-WEBHOOK-SECRET` header. Copy the secret and configure your server to check it. You can reveal it again later from the **Informational** page.

Pick an event under **Test send** and click **Send test event**. Portal queues a [test event](/resources/informational-webhooks/overview#recognizing-test-events) for your endpoint.

Delivery happens in the background, so the wizard can only confirm that the event was queued. Check your server's logs or the event log to see what your server did with it.

Click **Finish**. The webhook already exists at this point, so this step has no **Back** button.

## Done

The last screen shows your endpoint and how many events you subscribed to. **Last delivery** reads **Waiting for a matching event** until a matching transaction or wallet action happens.

* Click **Send another test** to go back to the test step.
* Click **View event log** to open the [event log](/resources/informational-webhooks/overview#event-log).
* Click **Done** to go to the **Informational** page.

## Next steps

* [Manage your informational webhook](/resources/informational-webhooks/overview#manage-in-the-dashboard): change the endpoint or events, rotate the secret, and resend failed events.
* [Add external addresses](/resources/informational-webhooks/overview#external-addresses) to get events for addresses Portal doesn't manage.
* [Set up flow control hooks](/resources/flow-control-hooks/set-up) to approve signatures or store backup shares on your own server.
